Susan Jenkins, owner /artist of Cycle Up Jewelry Plus, has always led an active lifestyle, from road races, to cycling, to triathlons, to yoga, to rock climbing. She also has a passion for recycling, reusing, and repurposing as much as possible in an effort to be conscious of the footprint we leave on the Earth. After many a flat tire on her bike, she started saving the old tubes, not wanting to throw them away… something those of us who ride can appreciate. I think my husband and I have an entire cloth grocery bag of old tubes in our garage! After a bit of research, Susan discovered that there were a lot of artists out there repurposing old tubes in a variety of ways. She decided that she would use her old tubes to make colorful, fun, lightweight earrings that could keep the tubes out of the landfills and promote an active lifestyle at the same time. Thus, Cycle Up Jewelry was born! Susan’s unique earring designs are for anyone, but especially the active fashionista who is concerned about the environment. Each earring is lightweight and can be worn for exercise or going out on the town AND is handmade from materials that were destined for the landfill such as tire tubes!
Throughout 2021, to support the mission of repurposing, reusing and recycling as much as possible, 20% of the proceeds of all earrings in the Straightforward Shape Earring Collection will go to Blue Star Recyclers. This not-for-profit organization and their amazing workforce of people with autism and different abilities recycle electronics and other materials!
To support the mission of living an active lifestyle and enjoying the outdoors, 20% of the proceeds of all earrings in the Bicycle Earring Collection will go to the Front Rangers Cycling Club. This great organization has volunteers who offer stable role models and healthy, fun activities for at-risk youth in Denver. Their programs create positive role models, enhance the image of law enforcement, promote bicycle safety, introduce youth to the sport of cycling, further a healthy lifestyle and support Junior Racing!

“As for most of us, I am quite worried about global warming and the overflowing landfills. Because I feel so grateful for the beautiful vistas that our country has to offer and just the feeling of freedom as the wind touches my skin while cycling, I struggled with what can I personally do to make a small difference to protect our earth and preserve it for our future generations?
The Mission for Cycle Up Jewelry Plus is to create a community to support each other to reuse, repurpose, recycle to reduce the waste that we humans produce AND to promote, uplift an active lifestyle. The hope is that these fun, colorful, lightweight earrings that don’t necessarily look like what they originally were, are a product that you feel good about buying/wearing OR that you are motivated to do your part to reduce waste and live a healthy, active lifestyle!
